Missions and Ministry Mission Commission
Trinity Covenant believes in living out the good news of Jesus in our community. We are soundly supported by the national covenant denomination as well. There is a newly installed Compassion Justice and Mercy Department at the national level to support local churches in local efforts to connect to the poor and marginalized in local communities and create compassion and justice ministries.

Trinity has some great outreach programs that we would love for you to participate in. We have both local international ministries that we would like you to prayerfully consider participating in. You may want to explore these options for yourself, your family or your small group. The following are just a few ways our church family is living out the kingdom of God:

Interfaith Hospitality Network: IHN is an inter-denominational support for local families in Salem. By providing weekly housing at various churches throughout our community, families get to live together while they are provided assistance during the day to look for more permanent housing solutions. Houses and ministers to homeless families in the Trinity building three to four times per year, for a week at a time. There are many ways to serve while the families stay at our church including cooking meals, hosting for the evening, spending the night at the church, setting up and taking down the furniture to be used at the next church, buying food and supplies. For more information please contact Pam Kerr through Trinity. For more information about IHN in Salem check out their website: http://salemihn.org/default.aspx. For information about interfaith hospitality across America check checkout: http://www.familypromise.org . Please click on the church calendar located on this web site to find out the upcoming dates of IHN.

Jason Lee Soup Kitchen: The fourth Sunday of every other month Trinity provides a soup meal to local neighbors in the basement of Jason Lee Methodist church at We provide the soup, bread and serve the meal to those who are trying to make ends meet at the end of the month. It is an opportunity to share with those who you might never have an opportunity to serve in our busy isolated worlds. Diane S. heads up this ministry and has a real calling in this area. Experience the joy of working with Diane and feeding those who tend to be on the margins of our community. Sign ups on Service bulletin board. Please check church calendar on this web site for the dates of the Soup Kitchen.

H.E.A.R.T: “Help Encourage A Reader Today. Just across the road from Trinity is Liberty Elementary School. Trinity has been proving volunteers to read with children for years. Did you know that being able to read is the number one prevention of delinquency? Help children on the road to reading success by signing up for one morning a week to read to children. The kids love it and the staff at Liberty depends on us!

Simonka house: Simonka House is part of the Union Gospel Mission. It provides housing and spiritual support for women and their children. Trinity covenant women team with the high school women to serve a Sunday dinner, eat with the families and assist in clean up. We serve on the third Sunday of the month from 4:15 to 6:30. Sign ups on Service board. There are many other opportunities to volunteer at Union Gospel Mission, just call Judy at 503-362-3983.

Community Corner: An after school program for kids from Liberty School. The program is a great service for parents that work. We are looking at expanding our opportunity to meet the needs of the families in other ways, such as a parent’s night out and encouraging them to check out our worship services on Sunday. Join this great team of Trinity folk leading games, creating art projects and helping with home work after school from 3 to 6:00 p.m. For information call Cliff at Trinity, 581-5675.

Mentoring: several individuals from Trinity mentor children. This has been a deep and rich experience to walk along a child through rain and shine. Catholic Social Services does all the back ground checks and finds the families. There is interest in those who mentor to meet regular to share ideas experiences and challenges. If you are interested in finding out more about mentoring, call Andy Harris at 503-378-0909.

Migrant Outreach: a group from Trinity joined another covenant church at a migrant camp this summer. It raised a lot of interest in searching out a more local opportunity to share with those who work hard to harvest the crops here in the Willamette Valley. If you are interested in helping others learn Spanish or help create develop an opportunity to minister to migrant families please contact the church office at 503-581-5675.
